CNC Carved Sculptures

Chris has been cutting wood on the CNC (Computer Numeric Controlled) machine for 20 years now. But it is only recently that improvements to the design software and the motion control software have allowed true sculptural capabilities with the equipment.  The possibilities are endless.  Here, he began with a pen and ink sketch that he made over 30 years ago, converting it to a 3-D wall relief carved in MDF board. [see below] The piece is then sanded and ready for painting, perhaps in a faux stone finish.

Over time this led to all kinds of possibilities including this custom carved skull and watch mechanism, designed to be a shelf support in a custom desk he built.Skull and Watch carving
